Early mornings the shaded end is a loose standing circle of the same dog owners, dogs off the lead among themselves, and it breaks up before the park fills. Same thing again once it's fully dark.

When school lets out this end goes from empty to packed in about five minutes and the parents stay standing there far longer than the kids need — it's the local school-gate social hour, just moved into the park. Before that hour the same ground belongs to people walking dogs.

The gravel strip along the edge of the park is a standing petanca fixture most afternoons — same regulars, same hours, and a row of onlookers on the wall behind who never play. Turn up on a weekday afternoon and it's running whether or not anything else in the park is.
