People picnic back in the pines rather than at the water, because the lake edge has no shade and the mosquitoes come off the rice water at dusk. Groups pull the tables together in the clearings just off the road and the cars park nose-in on the sand between the trunks.

Watching the sunset shore path running south from the Pujol embarcadero along the lake edge

Walk five minutes south along the water from the jetty and the crowd just stops — the same sun, the same water, nobody. Regulars sit on the bank here instead of queuing on the boardwalk, and leave the moment the light goes because the mosquitoes off the rice water are brutal from May onwards.
