In the weeks before Fallas the falla casals put trestle tables straight out across their corner of the street and eat there — dinners, and long weekend lunches that block the street entirely. Out of season the same corner is where the awning stays up and people stand around with a beer after a work session.

Early evening the parents take the terrace tables and the kids take the actual street between them — scooters, a ball, running end to end while the adults stay seated. It empties out and turns into standing drinking crowd territory a couple of hours later.

Mid-morning the benches in the shade by the church fill with older neighbours who've just done the market, shopping trolleys parked in front of them, and they stay put until lunch. Same benches, same people, and they shuffle along the row as the shade moves.

Once the terraces around the square are full — and they're full early — everyone else just sits on the ground and the wall in front of the church with cans and plastic cups. It's the same square as the morning bench crowd, completely handed over by about eleven at night.
